Xiaomi to launch its very own “Pinecone” SoC on Feb 28

Smartphone makers like Apple, Huawei and Samsung have already developed their in-house system-on-chip named A-Series, Kirin and Exynos respectively.
Xiaomi will be soon become an addition to above list as Mi is planning to launch their in-house chipset called “Pinecone”.
There have been rumors about Xiaomi developing its own chip since mid 2015. Today we have a date. Xiaomi will reveal more details on its Pinecone SoC on February 2017, 2:00PM China Standard Time (10:00 PM PST / 1:00 AM EST).
With this, Xiaomi will become second company in China to design their in-house SoC. Having its own processors could greatly reduce the costs and so do expected Xiaomi’s upcoming phone with Pinecone processor to be Cheaper, at least when compared with its competition.
Let us also inform you that Pinecone is a direct translation from the Chinese term. There could be an all together a different name of the chipset or its western adaptation of the name.
